ADVENT CALENDAR DAY ONE

Advent Calendar, you can see Stampin' Up's pictured in the Holiday Mini Catalog , page 36

One of my SUDSOL sisters, Maria Vanderform, is posting each day of the Advent Calendar with outside and inside views.  Thanks to Maria and her generosity I am able to share day one with you today.

                                           OUTSIDE VIEW

                                        INSIDE VIEW

These are her instructions to complete day one:

Stamp the image from the Day 1 stamp with Garden Green ink on Whisper white card stock twice. Punch one image with the 1" square punch and mount on a 2 by 2" piece of Whisper White card stock
Attach this 2 by 2" piece at the back of the die cut piece making sure it is centered and facing the right way up.
Cut out the snowflake image from the second one.  Cover it with dazzling diamonds and mount it on the flip up lid of the Cherry cobbler die.
Using your scissors, carefully cut out the word "one" and notch both ends.
Mount it over the snowflake.

To complete day one you will need :
Peekaboo Frames Bigz L Die 124587
25 & Counting stamp set 123794 ( I prefer the clear mount)
Garden Green Ink ( pad 102272 or marker 100080) These stamps are small so if you don't have the Garden Green Stamp pad you can use your marker to color the image, huff and stamp
Whisper White Card Stock 100730
1" Square Punch 124094
Dazzling Diamonds 102023
Cherry Cobbler Card Stock  119685

Additional items you might need include snail or adhesive of choice, scissors or snips and for the completed project you will need a 12 x 12 frame.  I had difficulty finding one that was reasonably priced so I bought a 11 3/4 x 15 3/4 at IKEA, which I have not used yet. ( still hoping to find a 12 x 12) One of my friends found one at a thrift store for just a few dollars.  What luck!  If I decide to use my frame I will have to be creative with the top and bottom to fill in the space.

I have a chart that lists the number of each shape and color you need to complete the calendar.  I did make a few substitutions as I did not have one of the Designer Series Paper packs when I cut mine out.  That is the nice thing about a project like this, you can change it around to make it your own.  If you would like a copy of the chart please leave a comment including your e-mail address.

Once again I would like to thank Maria for all of her hard work and for sharing it with me and with you.

Happy Crafting,

Today I would like to share with you a card we made at our last WCPSS stamping group.  We meet every other month and Sherri Barron always has a cute card for us.  This card was made using the Best of Everything Stamp Set  and two of our new in colors: Calypso Coral and Pool Party.  The front of the card was embossed in the Houndstooth Testured Impressions Embossing Folder.  The Whisper White Cardstock is cut 4 1/4 x 2 1/2. I used markers to color the tree limb Chocolate Chip and the leaves Pool Party.  Make sure to huff on your stamp before stamping when using markers.  This adds moisture so your image will be clear.  My bird is stamped in Calypso Coral and the small piece of Domestic Goddess DSP is cut 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 .  I think the paper pulls the colors together very nicely.  To finish it off I used a piece of the Calypso Coral Ruffled Ribbon and a gold brad for his eye.  You could bling it up by using a Rhinestone Brad or one of our Basic Rhinestones.  This card is equally cute when made with Pool Party cardstock as the base and the leaves and bird stamped with Calypso Coral.  The plaid paper from the Domestic Goddess DSP and Pool Party ribbon would complete your card.  I am going to make a gift set of cards and box using this idea with matching envelopes made from the DSP.    I love the versatility of the paper and the color combination is one of my new favorites.  TIP:  When using colored cardstock I like to cut a piece of Whisper White Cardstock about 1/4 to 1/2 inches smaller that the card and using my snail, attach it to the back inside page so that my personal note and signature will be visable.  I think I will stamp my little bird on the inside before I send it.

I would love to see what you make using these colors!

Today I have a card for you that I am making for a swap on Saturday.  My inspiration for this card was Chris Austin's coffee packet gift card.  I have moved that butterfly numerous times and can't seem to get the balance I am looking for.  I have decided to leave it alone and move on.  My real red cardstock is cut on the 11" side of the paper at 5 1/2 and scored in the middle making the card size 5 1/2 x 4 1/4.  I cut my basic black cardstock 5 1/4 x 4" and layered it on to my red.  I stamped the First Edition Specialty paper cut 3 1/2 x 5" with a stamp from the Fabulous Florets stamp set in Basic Black . ( Normally I cut each layer 1/4" smaller than the previous layer on each side)  This time I left a larger space at the bottom of the black cardstock when I attached my First Edition to it so my ribbon would show up.  I cut my leaves from the Bird Builder punch.  I find the easiest way to do this with little paper waste is to cut a strip and place it under the leaf portion of the punch.  The flower was made using the faux suede technique and punched with the scallop punch.  I only punched three flowers as I separated the paper layers giving me 6 total.  To make flowers using this technique you must break down the cardstock so you can separate the layers.  I ran the cardstock through my crimper many times, crumpled it up it a tight ball and ran it through the crimper some more.  You will know when it is ready as it will begin to separate around the edges.   I carefully pulled the layers apart and used the inside portion of the paper, which looks like suede, up. My butterflies were cut using the beautiful butterflies die and dry embossed in the finial press embossing folder with my Big Shot.  I finished it off with a combination of Real Red and Basic Black ribbon.  There you have it,  Hope you enjoyed this card.

PS:  I couldn't leave it alone.  I finally took the butterfly off and liked the simple appearance of the card.  Make one and let me know which one you like better.

When I saw the Timeless Portrait paper I thought;  It's cute, but so limited, what in the world would I use it for?  Well, have I changed my mind!  Below you will see my altered composition book.

This is one of the black and white composition books that are on sale this time of year with the school supplies for $1.00 or less.  I covered the entire front with a combination of the girl on the swing and the black and white flower patterned DSP.  The flower is made from the scallop punch, I believe I used 6 punch outs, scrunched them up real tight and put a brad in the middle.  The ribbon is the 1 1/4" striped basic black grosgrain ribbon.  I wrapped one end of the ribbon around a pony tail tie and stitched it with a needle and thread.  The other end is secured with the brad that went through the center of the flower.  I wrapped the ribbon around the book and put the loop around the flower.   The back of the book was a black and white stripe.  I used the DSP black and white patterned paper only in the middle.  The stripes on each side are the back of the composition book.  You can see the ribbon wrapped around the back toward the left hand side.  I covered my hand stitching with a scrap piece of the grosgrain ribbon.  Isn't this cute!
The Products I used are:

122352 Timeless Portrait Designer Series Paper
115615 Basic Black 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon

118874 2 3/8" Scalloped Circle Punch
